Piha
The most famous beach found in North Island which is located in the western coast of the north island which is 40 kilometres away from the city of Auckland. It is popular and famously known for being of the best beaches for surfing.The beach has black iron sand and is also known for the scenery. The beach has a history of Mallibu board riding was first introduced by two Californian lifeguards in 1956. The first surf boat race was held here during the 1930's. Piha has stunning and majestic rugged cliffs and the Lion rock that guarding over the beach. Piha has a very small community made up of Bach owners and residents. The population is around 600 people.Piha attracts a lot of locals throughout the year and a major place visited by Aucklanders.T he lifestyle here is very relaxing and it has all the basic amenities for a good life.
The area and places nearby are known for the natural beauty and isolation and have retained the beauty. There are several streams and a sheltered lagoon. the sand is colour is black because of the high iron content which comes from the volcanoes. You can have surfing lessons and or you can abseil down the Piha canyon. There is also a popular licensed cafe and takeaway bar that offers food and there is a bar and restaurant too. Waitakere Ranges and Arataki Visitor Centre
Waitakere Ranges is a regional parkland that is cover more than 16,000 hectares of native forest and coastline. the park has around 250 km of walking and tramping tracks, beaches, breath taking vistas rocky outcrops and spectacular waterfalls and cliffs. It is a playground which is known for a number of fun activities that you can do like swimming, walking, fishing and camping, even picnicking. There are also a number of adventure activities to enjoy while you visit here like mountain biking, canyoning and qua biking. The Arataki Visitor centre offers information of detailed walking maps and brochures. You can get spectacular views from the walk back cross the forest towards Auckland's skyline.
